Generators on yachts are a critical power source for comfort and operational continuity. However, especially under heavy use, diesel generator exhaust can cause soot buildup. Over time, this buildup may lead to contamination in the exhaust line, complaints of odor and smoke, soot formation in the engine room, and increased dirt load on equipment. A properly designed exhaust soot filtration system helps reduce the soot load in the exhaust line while aiming to reduce marine pollution. ECS Marin designs, manufactures, and commissions generator exhaust soot filtration systems in accordance with yacht configuration and with proper on-site installation discipline.
It operates as an intermediate system and can be started with a single button. At the moment it is started, it switches to the main exhaust outlet.
The system is completely safe and can be taken out of service whenever desired.
It is 100% safe.
Why Is Soot Filtration Important?
A Cleaner Sea and Lower Dirt Load
Soot accumulates on surfaces over time and builds up in the exhaust system together with unburned fuel. Filtration helps reduce this load and provides a cleaner environment.
The filtration system helps reduce the soot / particulate / unburned fuel load, thereby supporting the reduction of these complaints.
Scope of Service
ECS Marin handles the generator exhaust soot filtration system from end to end:
Inspection and analysis of the existing exhaust line
System design and positioning in accordance with yacht layout
Sealed installation, fixing, and vibration management
Commissioning checks and overall system verification
How Does the Process Progress?
Inspection and Needs Analysis
Generator capacity, usage scenario, installation area, smoke / odor complaints, and maintenance history are evaluated.
Design and Layout Planning
The position of the system is determined in terms of service access, safety, and line flow. Necessary adaptations are planned.
Production / Manufacturing and Line Integration
The required connection parts, line arrangements, and installation infrastructure are prepared for proper integration of the system into the boat.
Installation, Fixing, and Checks
During installation, sealing, connection safety, and vibration effects are taken into consideration. Afterwards, the overall system is checked.
Commissioning and Follow-Up
The system is commissioned; its general behavior during operation is observed, and its suitability for operating conditions is verified.
Benefits of the Generator Exhaust Soot Filtration System
Provides a cleaner exhaust line and lower dirt load
Most importantly, it aims for a cleaner environment
Why ECS Marin?
ECS Marin sees the generator exhaust soot filtration system not simply as “installing a filter,” but as an engineering application that must be handled together with the exhaust line, layout, and generator limits. With the right design, proper integration, and disciplined on-site installation, it creates a cleaner and more sustainable exhaust infrastructure on yachts. In this way, it helps prevent sea-polluting substances such as soot and unburned fuel coming from generator exhausts, providing a cleaner sea…
